February 9th 2018- Worcester Firefighters were awoken about 4am to the dispatch of a reported building fire on West Street. Companies arrived to find fire in the basement of a large 3 story apartment building. Crews were hampered with frozen hydrants.

It sounded like crews had a good handle on the fire so I didn’t go at first as I had to work at 7. Unable to go to sleep now I listened in and things started to go downhill. The fire started to extend up a pipe chase to the first floor and worked its way up.

A second alarm was transmitted as the fire was found to be spreading throughout the building. I started getting ready to go. On my way they called for a 3rd alarm then an additional engine over the 3rd alarm.

When I arrived there was fire thru the roof and companies had mounted an exterior attack with big lines and master streams.

I was able to get a few shots before I had to head off to work.
