April 30th 2016- NYPD ESU held their annual rememberance day at ESU headquarters at Floyd Bennett field in Brooklyn.

ESU, short for Emergency Service Unit is NYPD’s elite squad of tactical officers who perform not only SWAT type duties they also handle calls for emotionally disturbed people to hazardous materials incidents to natural disasters and everything in between.

As the saying in the city goes, If someone needs help they call the police, when the police need help they call ESU.

The event showcases demonstrations by Special Operations Division units. Scuba divers are dropped out of helicopters by aviation into Jamaica Bay. They retrieve a victim from the water and lift him to safety under the watchful eye of members from the Harbor unit.

Then ESU rappels out of a helicopter to show their skills. Static vehicle displays are also available for photos and viewing. A memorial service is then held inside the aviation hanger.
It’s usually marked on my calendar every year.
