At 9:46 Charlton Firefighters were called to a house on Richardsons Corner Road for reports of a house fire.
Charlton Firefighters were attending the funeral for fire department chaplain Rev. James Chase when the call came in. A Sturbridge ambulance covering the town arrived first. There was smoke and fire showing on arrival.
Fire was found in the wall adjacent to an outside chimney and quickly extinguished.
A 3rd alarm was transmitted due to cold weather.
Numerous surrounding towns responded for mutual aid.
Crews cleared the scene by 12:44
