Shortly before 3am Worcester Firefighters were called to a house on Scenic Drive in the Tatnuck Square area. As companies signed on the air they were updated that dispatchers were receiving calls reporting the fire indicating it would more than likely be a confirmed fire. There was also a report of explosion at the location.
Engine 9 was first to arrive and found heavy fire in a porch area on the side of the house. Crews mounted an aggressive attack but not before fire found its way into the attic. Ladder crews vented the roof and engine companies made a push into the attic and knocked down the rest of the fire.
The house was occupied at the time of the fire and a cat had perished as a result of the fire.
