Shortly after 3pm while Brookfield firefighters were working a brush fire when a call came in for a building fire on Webber Road in the area of Harwood Cross Road.
It was reported fire thru the roof.
First arriving companies had heavy fire showing from the 2 story wood frame house. The fire had advanced rapidly. The house was already well involved.
There were no hydrants in the area so tankers from numerous towns were called for a tanker shuttle. A fill site was set up at nearby Tantasqua High School.
The fire reached 4 alarms before it was brought under control.
A rehab truck from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services to help assist with hydration and recuperation of firefighters who were battling the blaze.
Unfortunately a family pet perished in the fire.
The fire is under investigation by the Fire District 7 Fire Investigation Unit as well as troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshall's Office.
