A Worcester Police officer was involved in an accident in his unmarked cruiser on Grove Street today at the corner of Chester Street. Initial reports indicate a vehicle on Chester Street might not have stopped at a stop sign, slamming into the cruiser and then the cruiser was then hit by another vehicle.

The officer was able to call for help on his radio. He knew right away he was injured. Firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to remove the driver’s side door of the police car. The officer suffered a serious eye injury.

The accident is under investigation by the Worcester Police accident reconstruction unit.
