January 7th 2018 Worcester Firefighters were called to 243 Canterbury Street for a reported building fire. Companies arrived to find a working fire in an occupied dwelling. Firefighters were greeted with frozen hydrants due to the sub zero temperatures. As crews thought they had the fire contained to the basement they started running low on water while trying to find a good hydrant.

A second alarm was sounded bringing in additional personnel. Shortly after all crews were pulled from the building as the fire started to advance up the walls of the 2 story frame dwelling. A PAR was conducted before mounting an exterior attack. Firefighters did an excellent job despite the frigid cold which brought wind chills into the negative.

I do not believe there were any injuries at the fire. I did however hear some family pets may have perished in the fire. A bus from the Worcester Regional Transit Authority was called in to warm up firefighters.
