Worcester, MA- Worcester Jakes were called to 4 King Street for a reported building fire. Worcester Fire Alarm Operators started to receive calls for the structural fire around 11:30 pm on this cool, rainy March night. Box 4-19 was struck sending in companies from Park Avenue, Southbridge Street, Webster Street, and Franklin Street stations. Companies arrived to find fire showing out of the rear of a 2 � story wood frame mixed occupancy. It was reported the building housed some type of classrooms and apartments. Companies had to force numerous doors inside the building as they progressed along. Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire, which was rapidly extending. A 2nd alarm was quickly struck calling in additional manpower. The building was built in the 1940�s and was of typical construction for its era. Companies reported the interior stairways becoming compromised due to the heavy fire conditions. Ground ladders had to be used in the rear of the building as two tower ladders work the front corners of the building Incident commanders struck a 3rd alarm for relief purposes. Once the fire was knocked down there would be heavy overhauling for Worcester Firefighters. Firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the fire and contain it around midnight.
