The Worcester Fire Department held an awards and promotional ceremony on September 26th and the new Doherty High School.
Numerous awards were given out
Lt Matthew Kane received a Heroism Award and Lt John Ushinski received a Valor Award for actions taken on August 23 2023 for a shooting at the annual Caribbean Festival at Institute Park.
Both rendered aid to two separate shooting victims. Lt Kane assisted a male with a gun shot wound to the foot while Lt Ushunski tended to a male with a gun shot wound to the neck. Due to the seriousness of the gun shot and waiting for an ambulance to arrive Lt Ushinski decided it to best to transport the victim to the hospital in an already waiting police cruiser.
Unit citations were issued to Engine 12, Engine 6 and Ladder 1 for a 3 alarm fire on Cohasset Street on November 23rd 2023
Companies found heavy fire from the rear porches and attic on arrival. Numerous rescues were made at this fire.

Also from this fire was FF Ryan Magee, who lives near by. FF Magee heard the commotion and shouts of fire and ran to the scene. FF Magee found two residents in a 3rd floor window, he then went inside to evacuate victims. As he made it to the 3rd floor he was met with heavy smoke and determined conditions were too hazardous to proceed. At this point companies were arriving.

Unit citations were also issued to Engine 4, Ladder 7, and Engine 2 for their actions at a 3 alarm fire on Outlook Drive on June 4th 2024. Companies made rescues over ground ladders as fire took hold of the large multi apartment building in the late hours of the night.
