Rutland firefighters were called to Countryside Estates at on Maple Street Friday January 12th around 2pm for a report of a building fire.

Companies arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from one apartment in one of the buildings closest to the road. Firefighters made a quick and aggressive attack while others made rescues over ladders. Some of the residents were trapped in their apartments due to the heavy smoke in the common hallway. They retreated to their balconies where they were rescued over ground ladders and a tower.

One of the occupants received 2nd and 3rd degree burns before jumping out of his apartment to safety. There were some other minor injuries. Reports are about 50 people displaced as a result of the fire.

Crews from all around came to assist at the fire including the Worcester Box 4 canteen and the Department of Fire Services Rehab.

It rained cats and dogs most of the time. Once it slowed down I was able to take the camera out for a few pics.
